Agartala, 22nd July 2024: In a surprising turn of events, Minister Bikash Debbarma visited the office of the Directorate of Janjati Kalyan at Indranagar and Gorkhabasti on Monday morning. What he witnessed left him astounded: 19 chairs sat empty, despite it being the start of the workweek.
“The work of the minister should be done on time. Otherwise, common people have to face problems,” Minister Debbarma asserted. His stern gaze fell upon the absent employees, prompting him to take immediate action.
The minister directed the officer to retrieve the attendance book. Upon inspection, it was confirmed that these 19 employees had not reported to work that day. The director struggled to provide a satisfactory explanation for their absence. Consequently, Minister Debbarma ordered the employees to submit valid reasons for their no-show. Failure to do so would result in suspensions and pay cuts.
This incident sheds light on a growing issue within various government offices: lax attendance and a lack of accountability. While some civil servants enjoy generous salaries and benefits, the public bears the brunt of their absenteeism. The minister’s intervention serves as a wake-up call, emphasizing the need for a more diligent work culture.
