Biotechnology department employee arrested for forgery and embezzlement

Agartala, 3rd May 2026:  A serious case of financial irregularity has surfaced in a state government office. Police have arrested Surajit Chakraborty, an employee of the Biotechnology Department, on charges of forging an officer’s signature to embezzle several lakhs of rupees.

Police sources informed that the fraudulent activity had been carried out in a planned manner over a long period. It is alleged that forged signatures were used to prepare official documents, enabling unauthorized withdrawal of funds. The revelation has sparked widespread concern within the department.

Investigators have already seized several key documents and are probing whether others were involved in the scheme. Chakraborty has been produced before the court.

The incident has raised fresh questions about financial transparency and security within government offices, highlighting the need for stricter monitoring and safeguards against internal fraud.
