Agartala: May 12. Former Chief Minister and Member of Parliament Biplab Kumar Deb met Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia in Delhi demanding the speedy completion of the Kailashahar airport.

Sources said that during the meeting Deb said that when he was Chief Minister the state government was also assured of the necessary support including the proposed land settlement. Deb said on social media that there was a positive discussion on the matter with the Union Minister.

During the meeting the former Chief Minister raised this demand in the Parliament in the last winter session. Various issues including new additions to the state’s air services were also discussed

It is to be noted that the attention of the Tripura government was drawn to the fact that the construction of this airport can be completed on the initiative of the state government by the concerned ministry, but in view of the limited financial status of the state, it was informed that it is not possible to construct the airport at such a large cost. In today’s discussion, Deb demanded that the airport should be built entirely with central government funds. Also, he drew attention to the fact that this airport should be made operational soon.

During his tenure as Chief Minister, Biplab Kumar Deb has repeatedly drawn the Centre’s attention to this issue. If the airport is operational, the entire North Eastern region, including Tripura, will be particularly benefited.
