Birajit announces six-hour dharna against govt decision

Date:

Agartala, 2nd July 2026:   The All India Panchayat Parishad’s Tripura State Committee has announced a six-hour sit-in protest on July 5 at the base of the Gandhi statue in Agartala. The demonstration is against the state government’s decision to shut down private chambers of doctors at GB Hospital.

MLA Birajit Sinha made the announcement during a press conference at the Kailashahar District Congress Bhavan. He argued that the decision is impractical, citing inadequate infrastructure and medical facilities in government hospitals. According to him, the move has already caused severe inconvenience to patients, with long queues, delays in consultations, and mounting pressure on public hospitals.

Sinha urged the government to reconsider the decision in public interest, recalling that a similar move by the Left Front government was withdrawn earlier under public pressure. He added that if the government does not roll back the order, the July 5 protest will go ahead with doctors also joining to voice their concerns.
