Agartala: September 23. Former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar today claimed the BJP is using terror as a shield to save their face as they had already lost ground.

Sarkar said this while visiting Hapania area where some shops were reportedly vandalized set on fire yesterday late night by BJP backed miscreants.

However soon after Sarkar and other MLAs who went to visit and left the spot, the BJP-backed miscreants have vandalized a restaurant in near the CPIM party officer in Hapania as the CPIM leaders had sat over there.

Later speaking with reporters, Sarkar said there was a programme in Hapania yesterday morning but police didn’t give permission however later police directed us not to hold any rally but can hold a meeting inside the party office.

“Those who have attended the rally have come under attack while going back home. Today we have heard yesterday late night the BJP-backed miscreants set shops on fire, vandalized it, and looted various shops and also attacked some people entering in their houses. Our seven delegations of MLAs visited the spot”, said Sarkar.

He said later a four member delegation of MLA went to Amtali Police station and met the Sub-divisional Police Officer and Officer-In charge.

“Our MLAs have asked them about the security. This is a complete failure of the police. However, SDPO and OC said that yesterday late night they deployed security in the CPIM party office at Hapania to protect it and taking these advantages the miscreants carried out such attacks in different areas and assured that they will take action. This is a sign of fear as they are losing grounds and just to save their face they have chosen the path of terror and violence”, he said.
