BJP Workers Attacked, Election Office Torched Allegedly by Tipra Motha Supporters

Date:

Agartala, 5th April 2026:   Political tensions in Tripura escalated as 10 BJP workers, including party candidate Majee Debbarma from the Pekurjala Janmejoynagar constituency of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), were allegedly assaulted in two separate locations under Sepahijala district. Debbarma sustained head injuries during a door-to-door campaign.

Speaking on the incident, Sepahijala Sabhadhipati and BJP leader Supria Das Datta accused the Tipra Motha Party of orchestrating the attack. “While our candidate was campaigning with party workers, a group of unruly youths suddenly attacked them, vandalized vehicles, and assaulted our team. These miscreants were backed by Tipra Motha,” she alleged.

Das Datta claimed the attacks were politically motivated. “Tipra Motha, once in power in the District Council, is now losing influence as people shift support toward BJP. These attacks are an attempt to intimidate our workers. We strongly condemn this violence,” she said.

Meanwhile, Tripura Panchayat Minister Kishor Barman stated that nine party workers were injured when Tipra Motha-backed miscreants set a BJP election office on fire late last night in Rampada Para and Bibhuram Chowdhury Para of Nalchar Assembly constituency.

“Yesterday around 11 p.m., I received calls that our party office had been set ablaze,” Barman said, alleging that Tipra Motha is repeating violent tactics seen during the 2023 Assembly elections, reminiscent of the unruly CPI(M) era. “They have threatened our leaders and attacked our workers with sticks, rods, and other weapons. Around eight injured workers are receiving treatment. Tipra Motha cannot deter BJP’s momentum through violence,” he added.

The BJP leadership asserted that despite holding power, they do not condone violence, framing the attacks as an attempt by Tipra Motha to cling to waning influence as the electorate shifts allegiance.
