BJYM leader death at Dharmanagar: Questions raised over investigation delay

Date:

Agartala, 11th  May 2026: Political tensions have intensified in Dharmanagar following the mysterious death of BJP Yuva Morcha leader and municipal councilor Rahul Kishore Roy shortly after the announcement of the Dharmanagar by-election results. The incident has triggered widespread speculation, public outrage, and fresh allegations involving political figures, while questions continue to mount over the pace of the police investigation.

Rahul Kishore Roy, who served as Mandal President of the BJP Yuva Morcha, died under circumstances that many locals describe as suspicious. In the aftermath of the tragedy, fingers are being pointed at newly elected MLA Jahar Chakraborty, with sections of the local population alleging possible links to the incident. Although the MLA visited the deceased leader’s residence four days after the incident, political observers and locals have questioned the delayed response.

At the same time, criticism has also emerged against former Chairperson of the Women’s Commission Barnali Goswami. Despite reportedly living close to Rahul’s residence, she had not directly contacted the bereaved family immediately after the incident, leading to further public discussion.

The controversy deepened after a social media post by a youth identified as Biswajit Dey went viral in Dharmanagar. In the post, he alleged that questions also surround Barnali Goswami’s role in the matter and further accused her of interfering in administrative functioning during the investigation. The allegations quickly spread across social media platforms, creating political uproar in the subdivision.

Meanwhile, allegations are now surfacing that despite specific directives from Chief Minister Manik Saha for a strict and impartial probe, the investigation has shown little visible progress. No arrests have reportedly been made so far, and a section of the public claims that the investigative process is being obstructed.

Responding to the allegations, Barnali Goswami approached the police and strongly denied all accusations leveled against her. She stated that vested interests were deliberately spreading misinformation by exploiting a tragic incident for political purposes.

“Let the police conduct an impartial investigation and take action against the culprits,” she said, while also expressing condolences over Rahul Kishore Roy’s death and extending solidarity to the grieving family.

However, amid mounting political friction and administrative scrutiny, public anger continues to grow over one key question — despite strong directives from the Chief Minister, why has no accused person been arrested or formally interrogated yet?
