School Theatre Workshops Begin Across Udaipur Subdivision to Promote Cultural Education

Date:

Agartala, 11th  May 2026: With the support of the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, and under the management of cultural organisation Abhimukh, a series of school theatre workshops has commenced in different schools across the Udaipur subdivision. The initiative aims to encourage creative development, cultural practice, and theatre education among children and adolescents, generating enthusiastic participation from students.

The first 10-day theatre workshop began on May 2 at Chandrapur Higher Secondary School, where nearly 80 students have taken part. Regular sessions are being conducted on voice training, physical exercises, basic acting techniques, teamwork, recitation, character building, and stage awareness. Organisers said the initiative is intended to develop children’s interest in theatre and build their self-confidence.

Another 10-day workshop started on May 5 at PM Shri Matangini Hazra School. The spontaneous participation of students there has also encouraged the organisers. According to those associated with the programme, theatre practice alongside academics helps in the mental development of children while improving language skills, teamwork, and social responsibility.

The workshops are being conducted by theatre director Abhijit Das. Actors Anish Das and Utpal Bikash De, among other theatre activists, are also participating in the training sessions. Under their guidance, students are learning not only acting but also the social importance of theatre, stage discipline, and creative thinking.

The organisation’s secretary Jhuma Dutta Das said that another 10-day theatre workshop for children will begin from May 12 at Patha Bhavan English Medium School.

Speaking about the importance of theatre education, theatre director Abhijit Das said, “At a time when children are becoming increasingly dependent on mobile phones and the virtual world, theatre helps connect them with real life, culture, and human values. Theatre is not only a medium of entertainment but also a powerful form of shaping individuals.”

It is noteworthy that Abhimukh has long been engaged in regular theatre activities and cultural programmes across the state. With the goal of connecting the younger generation to theatre, the organisation has been conducting workshops for children and adolescents, street plays, awareness-based cultural programmes, and new theatre productions, thereby playing an important role in the state’s cultural sphere.

According to theatre activists, such workshops at the school level are highly effective in building a healthy cultural environment for the future. Theatre not only teaches acting but also helps children develop confidence, empathy, leadership qualities, and social awareness. Organisers expressed hope that the ongoing theatre workshops in the Udaipur subdivision will inspire more students to participate in cultural activities in the coming days.
