Agartala, 1st August 2026: Tensions have reportedly been mounting in Ajit Palli area of Jogendra Nagar, where a section of local residents has raised serious allegations against Kajol Das, who is associated with the BJP’s local IT cell. The residents have accused him of involvement in alleged land-related disputes, intimidation, misconduct and other activities, and have appealed to Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha for intervention and justice.
Speaking to reporters, residents claimed that they have been living under pressure and fear due to what they described as the activities of certain local individuals. One resident alleged that people possessing legitimate land documents are sometimes questioned and threatened over the ownership and purchase of their properties.
The residents also alleged that Kajol Das and some others, including Gautam Malakar, have been interfering in local land matters instead of addressing civic concerns such as roads, drainage and other neighbourhood problems. They further alleged that attempts are being made to intimidate those who raise their voices against such activities.
One resident said that he had been associated with the BJP since around 2015 and had previously served as a Mandal member and Shakti Kendra in-charge. He alleged that his opposition to what he termed “anti-social elements” had resulted in malicious propaganda being spread against him and that he had, at times, felt unsafe returning home.
Another resident, identified as Rakesh Das, alleged that despite repeated assurances regarding housing assistance, he had not received the house he was reportedly sanctioned. He also complained of repeated flooding in his home and poor road and drainage conditions in the locality.
Some residents also made allegations concerning the treatment of women and an alleged assault incident. However, these claims could not be independently verified.
A woman resident questioned whether such conduct was consistent with the social-service role expected from political organisations and urged those involved to work for public welfare rather than create divisions among residents.
The residents appealed to Chief Minister Manik Saha and the party leadership to examine the allegations impartially, take appropriate action if the charges are established, and entrust local responsibilities to people of good character.
