Body of Missing man Recovered from River After Two-Day Search in Amtali

Agartala, 3rd May 2026:  The body of Rakesh Shil was recovered from a river near Ishan Chandranagar Kuli area on Sunday around 11 AM, after an extensive search operation lasting nearly three days.

According to reports, teams from the NDRF, Gokulnagar CTI second battalion, and the TSR underwater deep diving unit conducted a coordinated rescue operation and finally retrieved the body from the river.

Police and personnel from the fire and emergency services quickly arrived at the spot after the recovery. The family members of the deceased broke down in tears upon seeing the body.

Sources said that Rakesh Shil had gone fishing near a river beside Ishan Chandranagar school on Friday when he accidentally drowned. Following the incident, rescue teams launched a search operation in the river.

After necessary legal procedures, the body was sent to Hapania Medical College Hospital for post-mortem examination.

Meanwhile, Amatali Police have launched an investigation into the incident. Authorities are also examining a video footage in which Rakesh Shil can be seen drowning while fishing with friends. It has been alleged that his companions did not attempt to rescue him despite being present at the scene, raising suspicion among locals.

The circumstances surrounding the incident have created concern and speculation in the area, and police are continuing their investigation.
