Bolero wheels stolen at Kanai Bari amid rising thefts; Locals decry police inaction

Agartala, 6th July 2025:   In a fresh case of rising thefts in the Charilam block, unknown miscreants stole all four wheels of a Bolero car parked in front of its owner’s residence late last night. The incident took place in the Kanai Bari area under Bishalgarh police station.

The vehicle belongs to local resident Liton Saha, who told media personnel that his car was routinely parked outside his home as there is no driveway inside. The stolen wheels are estimated to be worth nearly Rs 15,000. This is not an isolated incident, he added, noting that his brother Titon Saha’s Ecco car wheels were similarly stolen just weeks earlier.

Speaking to media personnel, sister of the victim Jhumpa Saha raised pointed concerns about the deteriorating law and order situation. “If things continue like this, where will common people like us go?” she questioned. She also highlighted a disturbing rise in drug abuse among local youth claiming that “girls feel unsafe even walking to school or visiting their tutors.”

Residents allege a lack of police patrols in the area, accusing Bishalgarh police station of gross negligence. “Thefts are becoming a routine matter from tap heads to drinking water machinery and even rubber sheets and scaffolding, nothing is safe,” complained one elderly resident.

Local demands for increased vigilance and night patrols have grown louder, as the Kanai Bari locality continues to reel under the weight of insecurity and neglect.
