Agartala, 6th July 2025:  In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, Tripura Police yesterday night arrested seven individuals—including six hailing from Bihar—and seized 20 kilograms of cannabis during a routine vehicle checking drive in Kalyanpur, Khowai district.

According to Tapas Malakar, Officer-in-Charge of Kalyanpur Police Station, the police intercepted an Eco car carrying three men and three women from Bihar. Suspicion arose during the inspection, prompting a thorough search of the vehicle, which led to the recovery of a large quantity of cannabis.“All seven, including the driver, were immediately taken into custody,” Malakar said.

Preliminary interrogation revealed that the accused were allegedly part of a drug trafficking operation and were transporting the cannabis consignment to Bihar in exchange for money.

The arrested individuals from Bihar have been identified as Sambhu Kumar, Mantu Mandal, Abdes Kumar Mandal, Anjali Mandal, Sangita Kumari, and Lalita Devi. The driver, Gautam Debbarma, is a resident of Lefunga village in West Tripura district.

Police have registered a case under various sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Further investigation is currently underway to trace the supply chain and other individuals involved.
