Agartala, 6th July 2025:  Tripura Pradesh Congress President Asish Kumar Saha on Sunday alleged that the Tipra Motha Party is steadily losing public support and is facing growing internal discord.

His remarks followed a recent statement by Tipra Motha MLA Ranjit Debbarma, who warned that the party might withdraw its support from the BJP-led government if their key demands remain unaddressed. However, Tipra Motha founder Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma downplayed the comment, suggesting it may have been made out of frustration.

Responding to the situation, Saha accused Tipra Motha of using the threat of withdrawal as a political tool.

“Their remarks clearly indicate an attempt to bargain with the ruling coalition. Despite making several promises to the indigenous people during the elections, the party is now struggling to maintain its base and is weakening organizationally,” he claimed.

Saha also pointed out a shift in public sentiment, saying, “Just yesterday, several indigenous individuals joined the Congress, leaving parties like IPFT, Tipra Motha, and BJP. This indicates that more people, especially from the indigenous communities, are now turning to Congress.”

He further questioned the lack of internal communication within Tipra Motha. “It’s surprising that an MLA could make such a significant statement without the knowledge of the party supremo,” he said.

Highlighting the challenges faced by regional outfits, Saha added, “Parties formed around short-term issues often fail to sustain. Several regional parties have previously capitalized on indigenous sentiments but couldn’t survive. What Tipra Motha is doing now appears to be mere theatrics.”

He asserted that Congress remains committed to the welfare of all communities. “Unlike others, Congress has consistently worked for the development of indigenous people and all sections of society. Our leaders are engaging with people across the state, raising awareness about the real issues affecting them,” Saha added.
