Agartala, 30th March 2026:  On the eve of the upcoming ADC elections, a shocking incident has rocked Kanchanpur subdivision. A local vegetable vendor was brutally assaulted with a sharp weapon in an alleged attempt to slit his throat. The victim, identified as Ashwini Shukla Baidya (38) of Gaurishankar Road, Kanchanpur is currently undergoing treatment at North Tripura District Hospital.

Reportedly, the attack took place late last night near Dasda market. Ashwini was returning home after closing his shop at Komblatila when two assailants, their faces covered, allegedly abducted him. He was dragged into a secluded forest, tied up, and attacked with a sharp weapon before the attackers fled.

Severely injured and bleeding, Ashwini managed to reach the roadside, where his cries alerted family members. He was first rushed to Dasda Primary Health Centre, then shifted to Kanchanpur Sub-Divisional Hospital, and later referred to North Tripura District Hospital as his condition worsened.

Ashwini has alleged that one of the attackers’ voices resembled that of Subal Das, an employee at a nearby shop. However, the motive behind the assault remains unclear. His family has lodged a formal complaint, and police have launched an investigation.

The incident has triggered widespread tension and alarm across the area, casting a shadow over the election atmosphere.
