Agartala, 18th February 2025: In a significant crackdown on loan defaulters, the shop of businessman Ajay Ghosh in Karoimura, Bishalgarh, has been seized following his failure to repay a bank loan amounting to Rs 27 lakh, including interest.
Ajay Ghosh had taken a loan of Rs 16 lakh from Ujjivan Small Finance Bank, but despite multiple notices from the bank authorities, he did not take any steps towards repayment. In response, the bank sought intervention from the District Magistrate of Sepahijala, who provided Ghosh several opportunities to clear his dues. However, he remained unresponsive.
Following repeated warnings, the District Magistrate ordered a raid on Ajay Ghosh’s shop. Acting on these orders, Bishalgarh DCM Prasenjit Das led an operation on Tuesday afternoon, resulting in the seizure of the shop premises.
With this development, ownership of the shop has now been transferred to Ujjivan Small Finance Bank as per legal procedures. The incident has sent a strong message to defaulters regarding the consequences of failing to meet financial obligations.
Authorities have urged borrowers to comply with repayment terms to avoid similar legal actions in the future.
