Cabinet Ministers bids emotional farewell to DGP Anurag Dhankar at GBP Hospital

Agartala 20th July 2026:   A wave of grief swept through the Tripura government on Monday as almost all members of the state Cabinet, visited the mortuary wing of GB Pant Hospital to pay their last respects to the mortal remains of Director General of Police (DGP) Anurag Dhankhar, whose sudden demise while on duty has shocked the state.

Senior ministers gathered at the hospital to offer floral tributes and express solidarity with the bereaved family, describing Dhankar as a dedicated, courageous, and exemplary police officer whose contributions to maintaining law and order in Tripura would be remembered for years.

SW&SE Minister Tinku Roy said Dhankar’s integrity, courage, and tireless commitment to public service earned him immense respect. “His contributions towards ensuring the safety of the people will always be remembered,” he said while extending condolences to the bereaved family.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ratan Lal Nath described the DGP’s death as “a great loss to the State,” saying he had served the people of Tripura with unwavering commitment, professionalism, and integrity.

Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury recalled working closely with Dhankar on various road safety initiatives, stating that the senior police officer had consistently provided valuable suggestions to the Transport Department to help reduce road accidents. “His void can never be filled. We will remember his dedication, courage, and service with gratitude,” he said.

SC Welfare Minister Sudhangshu Das termed Dhankar’s demise a major loss for the state, saying Tripura had lost “an able administrator” and a competent, dedicated, and courageous police officer.

OBC Welfare Minister Santana Chakma said Dhankar was not only a high-ranking police officer but also an exemplary guide whose integrity, visionary leadership, and commitment to public welfare inspired many. She said the people of Tripura would remember his proactive role in maintaining law and order and serving the public.

The ministers collectively prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed their heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, remembering Anurag Dhankar as a distinguished officer whose legacy of dedicated public service will endure.
