Agartala, 31st August 2025 : Acting on secret intelligence, authorities carried out a large-scale operation today across multiple locations under Sonamura Police Station, including Bijoynagar ADC Village, Motinagar Gram Panchayat, Kata Mura, Batadhula, and Burma Doom. During the operation, a total of 2,28,000 cannabis plants spread over 19 plots were destroyed. The estimated market value of the seized plants is approximately ₹22.80 lakh. The operation lasted around five hours.
The operation involved active coordination between Sonamura Police Station, 81st Battalion BSF (NC Nagar BOP, Motinagar BOP, Kolubari BOP, Bhatadla BOP), Boxnagar Forest, Sonamura Forest, 9th Battalion TSR, and 7th Battalion TSR.
Authorities have stressed that such operations will continue in phases to curb illegal drug activities in the region. Individuals engaged in such illicit practices have been urged to cooperate with the administration’s efforts to make Tripura drug-free. Officials also warned that strict legal action will be taken against those involved, and any evidence linking individuals to these illegal activities will be dealt with under the full force of the law.
