Agartala, 10th August 2026: A high-level Central Government health delegation on Monday visited the Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Agartala Civil Hospital to assess its infrastructure, facilities and delivery of healthcare services.
The inspection is part of efforts to strengthen the state’s healthcare system and ensure improved medical services for the people. The Tripura government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Professor (Dr.) Manik Saha, has been giving priority to the expansion and modernization of health infrastructure. The hospital was inaugurated by the Chief Minister on July 12, 2026.
The delegation included Dr. Sunil Kumar Banwal, CEO of the National Health Authority (NHA); Saju Waheed A, Mission Director of the National Health Mission, Tripura; Dr. Shailesh Kumar Yadav, Deputy Secretary, National Health Mission; and G. Sarat Naik, CEO, Ayushman Bharat and State Mission Director. Dr. Nirmal Sarkar, Superintendent of IGM Hospital, accompanied the officials during the visit.
The hospital currently provides services through five specialized departments—Obstetrics and Gynecology, General Medicine, Dermatology, Pediatrics and Ophthalmology. Dental treatment and facilities for different blood tests are also available at the hospital.
During the inspection, the delegation visited several important sections of the facility, including the Outpatient Department (OPD), Inpatient Department (IPD), Emergency unit, wards and medical store. The officials reviewed the functioning of these departments and assessed the availability of services and facilities for patients.
The hospital has been equipped with modern facilities, including full air-conditioning and a paperless system for service delivery. With public interest and patient attendance reportedly increasing, the inspection is expected to further support efforts to improve healthcare delivery at the facility.
