Agartala, 8th October 22: The Central government has given approval to open three new zones of Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in Northeast including one in Tripura.
In a press release, NCB said in yet another effort of the Govt. of India to contain drug trafficking in the North east region and for better coordinated efforts, Ministry of Home Affairs through Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) organized a Regional meeting on Drug Trafficking and National Security at Assam Administrative staff college, Guwahati on 8th October.
The regional meeting was presided over by the Union Home Amit Shah and was attended by DoNER Minister G. Kishan Reddy chief Ministers of all NE states, all the Chief Secretaries, DGPs, Anti-Narcotics Task Force heads of all 07 the North Eastern and senior officers from Governemnt of India including Union Home Secretary, Director IB, DGP BSF, Assam Rifles, Secretary MoSJE, senior officials of DoR, CRPF, SSB, BSF, CISF, ITBP, RPF, NIA, DRI, CBIC, ED etc.
The press release also said that Union Home Shah inaugurated the Drug disposal campaign of NCB with NCB video on drug disposal. Along with other NE state in Tripura out a total 10045 KGs cannabis, 41814 nos. of tablets & 21326 bottles of Codeine based cough syrup were destroyed along with other NE states.
Union Home Amit Shah stressed upon achieving the vision of Prime Minister of a Drug Free India by 2047 and called upon all for zero tolerance towards drugs.He expressed his concern that all the seven states face alarming level of drug abuse more than the average abuse in India. He directed to take effective steps Indo-Myanmar and Bangladesh border to curb cross border and involvement of foreign nationals are also coming to light and are needed to curbed effectively.
Thereafter he informed the gathering about the recent Initiatives taken by Centre and its agencies to strengthen the existing mechanism and contain the drug trafficking.The press release said that the central government formed Restructuring Narcotics Coordination (NCORD) for effective coordination between various Central and State Agencies development of NCORD Portal, an all-in-one portal for all types of drug related information, NCB is developing a 24×7, dedicated and toll-free National Narcotics Helpline named MANAS.The central government has also given empowerment of Border Guarding Forces (BSF, Assam Rifles and SSB) under NDPS Act 1985 to carry out search, seizure and arrest.
“Creation of Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) in State as a single nodal point for all Narcotics related issues. Restructuring and strengthening of NCB for increased presence. Apart from NCB Guwahati zonal unit, 03 new NCB Zones at Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh & Tripura has been approved. New Regional office of NCB is coming up at Guwahati Assam”, the press releases stated.
