Agartala, 17th May 2025: Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying and Panchayati Raj, Rajiv Ranjan Singh, on Saturday announced that an expert team comprising officials from the Animal Husbandry Department, National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), and National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB) will visit Tripura in July to chalk out a roadmap for making the state self-sufficient in milk and fish production.
The announcement came during the inauguration of the 40 TLPD Milk Plant, Dairy Unit-II at Bamutia in West Tripura district.”The Centre believes Tripura holds significant potential to achieve self-sufficiency not only in milk but also in fish production,” the Minister said. “In June, we will hold discussions with Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha, following which a team will accompany me to the state for in-depth consultations.”
Singh assured that the central government is fully committed to supporting Tripura in its efforts toward agricultural and dairy development.Highlighting India’s status as the leading milk producer globally, he credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s initiatives for the country’s steady 6% annual growth in milk production.
“I have spoken to Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha and ARDD Minister Sudhangshu Das about the immense scope in fish farming and animal husbandry in Tripura. Artificial Insemination is a key tool for improving dairy productivity. In the state, around 2.7 lakh such procedures have resulted in the birth of 50,000 calves,” he noted.
The Union Minister praised the Tripura government’s development efforts, particularly under the leadership of the Chief Minister, and stressed that empowering farmers involved in milk and fish production will significantly contribute to the state’s economic growth.
