Agartala, 17th May 2025:  In a significant step toward expanding higher education in Tripura, the state government has announced the establishment of two new Government Degree Colleges in Gomati district—one at Kakraban and the other at Karbook.

As per an official order issued by Animesh Debbarma, Additional Secretary of the Education (Higher) Department, both colleges are scheduled to begin functioning from the academic session 2025–26.

This initiative is part of the government’s broader strategy to improve access to quality education and drive socio-economic progress in the region. The colleges will offer a range of undergraduate courses, with details on intake capacity and subjects to be finalized by the department based on local demand and available resources.

“By offering quality education across various disciplines, these institutions are expected to play a key role in fostering development in the area,” the order stated.Admissions will follow the norms and regulations set by the affiliating university, and seat reservations will comply with the prevailing state government rules and Reservation Acts.

Academic operations, including curriculum and examinations, will be governed by the guidelines of the affiliating university and the state’s Higher Education Department. The department will also oversee the appointment of teaching and non-teaching staff, including the principals for both colleges.

With immediate effect, all administrative matters—ranging from issuance of certificates to financial management—will be handled under the official titles “Government Degree College, Kakraban” and “Government Degree College, Karbook.”
