Agartala, 23rd September 2026 : Senior NCERT experts emphasised the importance of strong foundational learning, empowered teachers and child-centred education during the ongoing five-day State-Level Training on Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) in Agartala.
The training, organised by the Directorate of Elementary Education (DEE), Tripura, from September 21 to 25 at M.T.B. Girls’ H.S. School, witnessed insightful interactions by Prof. Dr. Ranjana Arora, Head of the Department of Curriculum, NCERT, and Prof. Sarad Sinha, Head of the Department of Teacher Education (DTE), NCERT.
Dr. Ranjana Arora stressed the need to strengthen children’s language and numeracy abilities from the early years. She highlighted the close relationship between language and mathematics and said strong foundations in literacy and numeracy equip children with knowledge and capabilities necessary for meaningful participation in society.
Highlighting the significance of teachers, she described teaching as a profession that builds all other professions, noting that doctors, engineers and professionals in various fields begin their journeys under the guidance of teachers. She said teachers are therefore a vital foundation for the nation’s future.
Dr. Arora also underlined the importance of collective efforts for successful implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, stressing that strengthening ECCE and empowering teachers would help preserve and carry forward the country’s knowledge, learning and cultural heritage.
Prof. Sarad Sinha described Tripura as a source of happiness and praised the State’s teachers as “nation makers”, appreciating their contribution to achievements in literacy and education.
She emphasised mother-tongue and local-language-based learning and encouraged teachers to use language charts, locally relevant teaching-learning materials, stories, songs, activities and play-based methods.
Prof. Sinha also called for linking classroom lessons with children’s daily experiences, local surroundings and interests, while ensuring opportunities for every child to speak, explore and participate.
She stressed holistic development, teamwork among teachers and meaningful use of technology, urging educators to share experiences and support one another in addressing classroom challenges.
