Agartala, 4th April 2024:  The bustling streets of Agartala have once again come alive with the commencement of the annual Chaitra Mela, marking a celebration of tradition, commerce, and community spirit. However, this year’s event carries an air of discontent among the participating traders due to recent rule changes.

Since Thursday, small traders have been diligently setting up their stalls along the designated areas adjacent to Rajdhani Shakuntala Road, Orient Choumuhni, and Shishu Udyan. Despite the familiar sights of colorful displays and eager shoppers, traders have voiced their dissatisfaction over alterations in the regulations governing the event.

Traditionally, the Chaitra Mela sees vendors offering a diverse array of goods for sale over a span of ten days. However, this year, modifications in the rules have left many traders feeling unsettled. Despite their reservations, they have commenced their temporary shops, determined to cater to the needs of the enthusiastic crowd thronging the event grounds.

Expressing their discontent, a cloth merchant lamented the changes, highlighting the longstanding tradition of their participation in the Chaitra Mela. As the day unfolded, the event witnessed a surge in activity, with both buyers and sellers alike immersed in the vibrant atmosphere.
