Agartala, 27th September 2025: Champamura market, located under the Kamalasagar Assembly constituency, narrowly avoided a devastating fire on Saturday morning. The blaze originated at Saha Variety Store, owned by Bhabatosh Saha, after a burning incense stick left unattended inside the shop ignited nearby materials due to lack of caution.
Locals informed, Saha had opened his shop as usual and performed his daily rituals, leaving the incense stick burning inside. Moments later, flames erupted within the store. Upon noticing the fire, Saha raised an alarm, prompting nearby shopkeepers to rush to the scene. In his attempt to extinguish the fire, Saha sustained injuries.
Local traders quickly mobilized to control the blaze and alerted the Bishalgarh Fire department. A fire engine was dispatched immediately, but its arrival was delayed due to traffic congestion near Uttam Bhakta Chowmuhani, caused by vehicles parked outside a private school.
Despite the delay, the market traders managed to contain the fire before the fire brigade reached the site. Their swift response prevented the flames from spreading further and saved the entire Champamura Market from a potential disaster.
Speaking to reporters, the son of Bhabatosh Saha, who is also a member of the market committee revealed that goods worth approximately Rs 1 lakh were damaged in the incident. Bishalgarh police arrived at the scene and are currently investigating the cause of the fire.
