Agartala, 27th September 2025: In a major breakthrough in the fight against narcotics, North Tripura police, in collaboration with BSF intelligence, arrested notorious drug trafficker Zakir Hossain late last night. Hossain, often referred to as the “Drug King of North Tripura,” was arrested by Kadamtala Police with 1,950 Yaba tablets concealed beneath a luxury vehicle bearing registration number TR05G066. The seized contraband is estimated to be worth Rs 9.75 lakh in the illicit market.
Acting on a tip-off, Kadamtala police noticed suspicious movement of a high-end vehicle near the Yakubnagar BSF border around 8 PM. Upon further investigation and under the supervision of SDPO Jayanta Karmakar and DCM Zinia Debbarma, the vehicle was searched, leading to the discovery of the narcotics stash. Along with the drugs, two mobile phones and the vehicle were seized, and Hossain was taken into custody.
Zakir Hossain, son of Aftar Ali and a resident of Purba Churaibari, has long been under the scanner for his alleged involvement in drug trafficking. Sources reveal that his illegal trade has helped him amass significant wealth over the years. His younger brother was previously caught smuggling drugs from Assam into Tripura via the Assam Gate.
According to police sources, Hossain’s drug operations date back to the previous government’s tenure, during which he allegedly maintained his network with impunity. His arrest marks a significant victory for the district police and BSF’s 97th Battalion, especially ahead of the Durga Puja festivities.
Police have registered an NDPS case against Hossain and are conducting intensive interrogations to uncover his network and collaborators.
