Agartala, 16th July 2026: The spirit of the traditional Rath Yatra festival came alive across the capital city as grand chariots rolled out alongside a series of beautifully decorated miniature chariots, adding a unique charm to the celebrations.
Following the age-old tradition, children from various neighbourhoods of Agartala enthusiastically participated in small Rath Yatra processions, pulling colourful chariots through the streets and lanes. Their excitement, devotion, and cheerful participation transformed the city’s surroundings into a vibrant celebration of faith and culture.
The miniature chariots, adorned with images of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Goddess Subhadra, became a centre of attraction as children carried forward the sacred tradition with great enthusiasm. Dressed in colourful clothes and holding the chariot ropes with joy, the young participants reflected the deep cultural connection of the festival.
Parents, family members, and local residents also joined the celebrations, turning the small Rath Yatra processions into community gatherings. Several areas witnessed devotional activities, including kirtans, conch shell sounds, and chants of “Jai Jagannath,” creating a spiritually uplifting atmosphere.
Beyond being a religious celebration, these miniature chariot processions are helping preserve and pass on the rich heritage of Rath Yatra to the younger generation. Many parents believe that such initiatives allow children to understand and embrace the cultural traditions associated with the festival.
While the grandeur of the main Rath Yatra remained a major attraction, the enthusiasm of children participating in small chariots added a special warmth and colour to this year’s celebrations in Agartala. The sight of young devotees carrying forward an age-old tradition made the festival even more memorable for the city.
