Agartala, December 09: In a significant anti-smuggling operation, authorities intercepted a vehicle laden with cannabis attempting to cross the Tripura border at Naka Point of Churaibari Police Watch Post on the Assam-Tripura border. The incident unfolded on Saturday around 9 am when Assam Police stopped an empty container vehicle, bearing the registration number NL-02Q-8170, reportedly en route from Agartala to Guwahati.
Upon interception, the driver swiftly fled the scene, arousing suspicions among the Assam Police. A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed a hidden compartment on top, containing a staggering 637 kg of cannabis divided into 91 packets. In-charge Pranab Milli estimated the black market value of the seized cannabis to be approximately Rs 64 lakh.
Local authorities have initiated an investigation into the incident, aiming to unravel the details of the smuggling attempt and identify those involved. The successful interception underscores the collaborative efforts of law enforcement agencies in curbing illegal activities at border points.
