CITU leader SP Datta accuses BJP of misleading campaign on nationwide strike

BY TC News Desk

Agartala, 13th February 2026:   The Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) today alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is spreading misinformation and false propaganda regarding the nationwide strike called by trade unions yesterday.

Speaking to reporters here, CITU Tripura State Committee General Secretary Shankar Prasad Dutta said the strike received widespread response across the state. He emphasized that there was no instance of picketing or obstruction by CITU members, yet the ruling party was attempting to distort the purpose of the protest.

Dutta claimed that the BJP’s campaign was aimed at diverting attention from the genuine demands of workers, including employment generation, controlling price rise, and opposing amendments to labour laws. “The strike was entirely democratic and peaceful. The spontaneous participation of ordinary people shows that this movement stems from real issues faced by the masses,” he said.

He further warned that such attempts to malign the workers’ movement would not succeed. CITU, he asserted, would continue to intensify struggles in defense of labour rights in the days ahead.
