Agartala, 9th December 2024:    Members of the CITU Sadar Sub-Divisional Committee held a protest march in the city today, voicing their demands through a mass deputation to the Labor Department. The 11-point demand included measures to curb rising prices, simplify construction project procedures, and improve workers’ welfare.

Addressing the gathering, CITU leader Shankar Prasad Datta criticized the state government and the BJP-led central government, accusing them of exacerbating workers’ struggles. “The continuous reduction in wages and closure of brick kilns have left workers jobless and families in despair. Many are living in poverty, desperately searching for work,” he stated.

Datta also highlighted the plight of tea garden workers, who, he claimed, are deprived of fair wages. “We have submitted an 11-point deputation to address these critical issues, including demands for health protection equipment for sanitation workers and a pension of Rs 10,000 for all workers above the age of sixty,” he said.

The committee emphasized the urgent need for government intervention to alleviate workers’ hardships and ensure fair treatment. The protest underscored the growing discontent among laborers facing economic challenges across various sectors.
