Agartala, 19th November 2023: In a distressing incident in Kalagang under Kadamtala RD block, a 10th-class student, Shamima Begum, attempted suicide on Saturday following a dispute with her father over a mobile phone.
Tajuddin, a day laborer and resident of Ward No. 7 of Par Gram Panchayat, returned home after a day’s work when the incident unfolded. Shamima, eager to acquire a mobile phone, requested her father to provide her with one. However, when Tajuddin did not immediately comply, Shamima, in a fit of anger, consumed Eldrin, a poisonous substance.
Shortly after ingesting the toxic substance, Shamima lost consciousness and began to stagger. She was rushed to a local hospital, and due to the severity of the situation, was subsequently transferred to North District Hospital in Dharmanagar at 9:30 pm.
At North District Hospital, doctors took immediate action, washing Shamima and administering saline to counteract the effects of the poison. Despite the initial gravity of the situation, Shamima’s condition gradually improved, and her life was saved through the timely intervention of the medical team.
As of now, Shamima Begum remains under the careful observation of doctors at North District Hospital in Dharmanagar.
