CM declares aid for 258 violence affected families

Date:

Agartala, 20th April 2026: Following the declaration of results for the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council elections, several parts of Tripura have witnessed a deterioration in law and order. Allegations have surfaced that miscreants linked to Tipra Motha engaged in violent activities under the guise of political affiliation.

Numerous homes were reportedly vandalized, and several individuals sustained injuries during the unrest. As tensions escalated, many families were forced to flee their homes and seek shelter in safer locations. An atmosphere of fear continues to prevail in the affected areas. Preliminary reports indicate that at least 258 families have been impacted by the violence.

In response to the situation, Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha has announced financial assistance for the affected families. Each family will receive Rs 25,000 as immediate relief. District Magistrates and Collectors have been directed to oversee the process and ensure prompt disbursement of aid. An initial amount of Rs 64.50 lakh has already been sanctioned, with further data collection underway to identify additional affected families. The relief effort is expected to benefit 258 families across 8 RD Blocks.

Meanwhile, sources indicate that the government has initiated action under the Tripura Recovery of Damages to Public and Private Property Act 2021. As per the provisions of the Act, individuals responsible for the destruction will be held accountable, and compensation for damaged properties will be recovered from them and redistributed among the victims.
