Agartala, 24th June 2026: Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha today said that, keeping in mind not only the current needs of Agartala city but also future requirements, everyone must work in mission mode to prepare a long-term and sustainable water resource management plan for the entire state.
Dr. Saha said this at a high-level review meeting on the proposed water supply system in Agartala using the water of the Gomati River, held at the War Room of TIFT on S.P. Mukherjee Lane in Agartala today.Dr. Saha was informed in detail about the matter.He said that it is not enough to think only about Agartala city; plans should be taken to manage water resources and meet the drinking water needs of the entire state, keeping future requirements in mind.“We have to work in mission mode on this issue and move forward with a far-reaching plan.
Necessary initiatives should be taken to effectively utilize the amount of water that is currently being wasted or not being used due to various reasons,” said Dr. Saha.He also emphasized conserving rainwater during the monsoon and using it when needed.The Chief Minister said that even the impossible can be made possible through effort and perseverance. Far-reaching thinking leads to significant success.He also mentioned that many impossible things have been made possible through the leadership of Narendra Modi with efficiency and foresight.Dr Saha also informed that a detailed discussion was held on the plan to supply drinking water by utilizing the surplus surface water of 12 rivers of the state. “In the first phase, a plan has been taken to supply drinking water to the cities of Udaipur, Bishramganj, Bishalgarh and Agartala by utilizing the surface water of the Gomati river.If this initiative is implemented, the dependence on groundwater for drinking water will be significantly reduced.
It will play an important role in permanently solving the problem of high levels of iron in groundwater, especially in Tripura”, he said.As part of the proposed plan, the meeting also discussed the possible outline of developing a permanent water supply system based on the Gomati River, keeping in mind the future demand for drinking water, and the excavation of separate raw water reservoirs for storing water during the dry season.
