Agartala, May 06, 2023: The College of Fisheries, CAU (I), Lembucherra, Agartala organized a one-day long “Off farm demonstration” at Marachara village under DBT funded project titled “Biotech-Krishi Innovation Science Application Network (Biotech-KISAN) in Tripura: West Tripura, Dhalai, South Tripura, Sepahijala district” on May 04 last.
A technology on ‘Pabda’ fish farming was demonstrated among the fish farmers. The programme was attended by 25 fish farmers from Marachara village under Dhalai district. The main objective of the programe is to encourage and boost the Pabda fish farming and to demonstrate them on various techniques of fish farming.
In the beginning, Dr. Sagar C. Mandal, Prof. & Principal Investigator of Biotech–KISAN Project, College of Fisheries, CAU (Imphal), Lembucherra, West Tripura welcomed all participants and briefed about the project. Dr. Mandal also highlighted the importance of Pabda fish in aquaculture and sighted the need for self-employment among the farmers.
The chief guest was Swapna Das Paul, MLA of the Surma assembly constituency, addressed the gathering by sharing the importance of the Pabda fish breeding and culture for the farming community towards self-employment.
The programme was also attended by Sanjoy Kumar Kurmi, Pradhan and Raj Narayan Koiry, Upa-Pradhan, Marachara Gram Panchayat.
During the programme, farmers interacted with the resource persons regarding various issues on ‘Pabda’ fish farming and management practices. Inputs such as ‘Pabda’ fish fingerlings, fish feed, fish farming calendar, handouts of ‘Pabda’ breeding and management practices and farmers activity card.
Prof. R. K. Saha, Dean of the College in his message, conveyed thanks to farmers, organizers and other stakeholder of their programme.
The programme was coordinated by Dr. Apu Das, Fishery Officer, Dhalai. At the end of the programme Tanmoy Gon Choudhury, Assistant Professor & Co-PI of Biotech-KISAN Project delivered vote of thanks.
