Agartala, 16th April 2024:  Allegations have surfaced against the Amtali Police Station for their purported negligence in handling the kidnapping case of a 15-year-old girl, resident of Champamura are. The incident took place on April 11, has been met with widespread criticism and concern.

The victim identified as the daughter of Shibu Acharya from the Champamura area, was reportedly abducted by Ujjal Mia, a resident of Churaibari Lakshinagar in the North Tripura district. The abduction allegedly took place in the Sekerkote area under Amtali Police Station.

Despite the family’s frantic search and subsequent finding of the alleged abductor’s identity, their efforts to seek justice were met with resistance. Reports claim that the Amtali Police Station refused to file a case against Ujjal Mia, leaving the family in a state of despair.

In a desperate bid for assistance, the family approached the Bishalgarh Women’s Police Station, only to be redirected back to Amtali Police Station. The bureaucratic impasse continued as the case was reportedly shuttled between stations without acceptance.

The incident has sparked outrage among the local community, with the family’s plight highlighting a potential lapse in the police’s duty to protect and serve. The central government’s initiative ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ stands in stark contrast to the treatment received by the family, raising questions about the efficacy of such campaigns.

As the case gains attention, scrutiny has also been directed towards the Officer-in-Charge of Amtali Police Station, Ranjit Debnath, with legal experts questioning the adherence to standard legal procedures.

While the Bishalgarh Women’s Police Station has shown a proactive stance, the role of the Amtali Police Station has been criticized as inadequate. The state’s Child Protection and Rights Commission, known for its active involvement in minor-related cases, is now under the spotlight as the public awaits its response to this distressing situation.

The community’s trust in law enforcement is at stake as the family continues to seek justice for their abducted daughter, with many calling for immediate and decisive action to address the alleged mishandling of the case.
