Agartala, 12th October 2023: The Pradesh Congress Committee in Tripura on Thursday strongly condemned and demanded strict punishment to all the extortion criminals involved in assaulting a father and son for not giving Rs 5 lakh as puja subscription in Bishalgarh under Sepahijala district of the state.
In a press statement the Bishalgarh division of the Congress alleged that on Wednesday in Bishalgarh some members of Rautkhala Yuva Sanstha called a local minority citizen Dulal Mia and his son to the club and demanded Rs 5 lakh as subscription money for Durga Puja.
“The poor Dulal Mia told the club authorities that it was impossible for him to pay Rs 5 lakh , but since Dulal Mia is the vice-president of Bishalgarh District Congress of the Indian National Congress, the club authorities forcibly locked him and his son inside the club and assualted them severely. They also threatened to kill the Congress leader and also threatened to leave the area if he did not pay the money”, the press statement reads.
It further alleged that when Dulal’s wife approached the club authorities to get her husband and son out, she was also physically assaulted and threatened dire consequence.
“Currently, Dulal Mia is being treated at Tripura Medical College. On behalf of the Bishalgarh District Congress Committee, we strongly condemn this incident and demanding the administration to give strict punishment to all the extortion criminals involved in the incident”, the press release reads.
Later, the President of the Congress party has met the victim at hospital. Meanwhile, the Tripura Police in Bishalgarh has issued show cause notice to another club named ‘Naboday Sangha’ accusing them for collecting Durga Puja subscription forcefully from different transport agency, good loaded vehicle and etc.
The police has said, “…The administration receiving complaints of forcefully collection of Durga Puja subscription by you club committee. You are here by show cause to why criminal case will not register against puja commitee members and why not your puja ceremony will be stopped by the competed authority”. The police has asked to submit their explanation by tomorrow without any fail.
