Agartala, Nov 28: A delegation of the Udaipur Gomati District Congress, led by its president Titon Pal, visited the 18 shops that were gutted in a massive fire at Chowkbazar in Udaipur on Monday night.
The Congress leaders expressed their solidarity with the affected traders and demanded a thorough investigation and compensation from the Gomti District Magistrate.
Titon Pal told the reporters that he suspected foul play behind the fire incident and urged the authorities to find out the cause and punish the culprits. He also said that the Congress party would stand by the traders who suffered losses in the fire and help them rebuild their livelihoods.
The delegation also included District President Debal Deb Roy, Sub-Divisional Magistrate Jayanta Bhattacharya, and Matarbari MLA Abhishek Deb Roy, who spoke to the victims and assured them of their support.
Meanwhile, District Magistrate Tarit Kanti Chakma and Sub-Divisional Magistrate Jayanta Bhattacharya inspected the 18 shops that were destroyed by a fire at Chowkbazar in Udaipur last night. They spoke to the affected traders and assured them of government assistance. A committee has been set up to assess the damage, which is suspected to be caused by a short circuit.
