Agartala, 16th May 2026 : Dharmanagar witnessed intense protests on Saturday as public anger mounted over the state of services at the district hospital. The agitation centered on two key demands: immediate payment of four months’ pending wages to sanitation workers and the urgent resumption of ICU facilities.
The demonstration was organized by the Dharmanagar District Congress. A massive protest rally began from the district Congress office and marched through several streets before culminating outside the office of the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of North District Health Department. There, party workers and supporters staged a sit-in demonstration.
Protesters alleged that despite the hospital having the necessary infrastructure, ICU services have remained non-functional for a prolonged period, causing immense hardship to patients. They also condemned the delay in clearing sanitation workers’ salaries, calling it unjust and unacceptable.
Congress leaders warned that if these demands are not met swiftly, the party will intensify its agitation in the coming days. The protest highlighted growing frustration among residents over healthcare facilities in Dharmanagar and underscored the urgency of administrative intervention.
