Agartala, 14th January 2025: Pradesh Congress Committee today criticized the present BJP Government for its alleged failure in fulfilling pre-poll promises and compared it to the then Left Front government, which they claimed also failed to work for development.
“The state’s double-engine government is about to complete seven years. The people of the state want to know what they have achieved,” said Prabir Chakraborty, spokesperson of the state Congress, at a press conference held at the Pradesh Congress Bhavan today.
Chakraborty compared the current government to the Left Front government and criticized the double-engine government. He stated that the previous government often spoke about the development of the state, employment, and other issues, but these goals are not being achieved properly due to a lack of support from the central government.
“The state has to run on loans. Before 2018, the state government’s debt was Rs 11,851 crore. Before the 2018 assembly elections, state BJP leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, promised significant financial assistance from the center along with 299 promises. They claimed that if there was a one-party government at the center, the diamond era would come to the state. However, during this time, not a single one of the 299 promises has been fully implemented. Stories of money arriving in the form of pots and ministers returning from Delhi with thousands of crores of rupees have proven untrue, while the debt has increased to Rs 26,446 crore,” he alleged.
He added that the people of the state are unaware of where this money is being spent.
“Teachers and employees have not received the central pay scale, irregular employees have not been regularized, dearness allowance is not being paid regularly, the names of over 40,000 people have been excluded from the list of social allowance recipients, and 60,000 eligible people have not been included. REGA work has been reduced to 30–32 days, wages have not been increased as promised, there are hardly any new appointments, vacancies have been eliminated, and regular wages of contract workers and sanitation workers have not been paid,” Chakraborty told reporters.
He further claimed that a report has revealed that 90 percent of the unemployed youth in Tripura are getting addicted to drugs due to the unchecked rise in unemployment.
Chakraborty concluded by stating that a larger movement needs to be organized against this situation in the coming days to remove the current double-engine government from power.
