Agartala, 14th January 2025: A joint operation between Tripura Police of Bishramganja Police Station and Baguihati Police Station in West Bengal led to the arrest of a man accused of blackmailing a young woman through social media. The accused, identified as Debashis Sutradhar, a resident of Vivekananda Road in Bishramganj, is alleged to have extorted money from the victim under the threat of compromising images.
According to reports, the incident began when Debashis developed a romantic relationship with the woman, a resident of West Bengal, after connecting through social media platforms. Over time, the two engaged in frequent phone and video calls. During these video interactions, Debashis reportedly captured screenshots of sensitive moments without the woman’s consent.
Subsequently, he used these images to blackmail the woman, demanding significant sums of money. Unable to tolerate the harassment, the victim filed a complaint at Baguihati Police Station in West Bengal.
Upon receiving the complaint, a team from Baguihati Police Station reached out to their counterparts in Bishramganj to assist in apprehending the accused. In a coordinated effort, the police successfully tracked and arrested Debashis Sutradhar.
“The collaboration between the two police stations was critical in resolving this case. The accused has been taken into custody and will face legal proceedings,” a Bishramganj police official said.
