Agartala, 28th August 2026: Alleging prolonged power cuts, inflated electricity bills and poor consumer services, the Unakoti District Congress on Friday staged a protest march, demonstration and road blockade in Kailashahar, demanding the removal of private power service provider Sai Computer Limited and restoration of electricity distribution under the Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL).
The agitation began around 3 pm when Congress workers and supporters took out a procession from the Unakoti District Congress office. The march passed through several important roads before reaching the Sai Computer Limited office near the Old Motor Stand. Protesters then blocked the road and staged a demonstration, raising slogans against the state government, the BJP and Sai Computer Limited.
District Congress President Badruzzaman, Congress leader Chandrashekhar Sinha and a large number of party workers and supporters participated in the programme. The road blockade temporarily affected traffic movement in the area.
Addressing the gathering, Badruzzaman alleged that residents of Kailashahar and surrounding areas have been facing frequent and prolonged power outages, often for several hours during both daytime and night. According to him, the crisis has adversely affected drinking water supply, businesses, students and routine household activities, particularly amid the prevailing heat.
Congress leaders also raised concerns over allegedly excessive electricity bills, claiming that many consumers are being charged unusually high amounts. They further alleged that complaints lodged with the local Sai Computer Limited office often do not receive timely or satisfactory responses.
The protesters demanded that electricity distribution in Kailashahar be handed back to TSECL, arguing that power supply is an essential public service and should primarily serve consumer interests.
The Congress also accused the state government of failing to adequately address the grievances of electricity consumers. Party leaders warned that failure to resolve the issues of load-shedding, billing irregularities and poor grievance redressal would lead to a larger agitation.
The latest protest comes amid growing public dissatisfaction over electricity services in Kailashahar, where road blockades and other demonstrations have previously been reported over power-related grievances.
