Constitutional Rights in Jeopardy in Tripura: Jiten

Agartala, 15th July 2024:   CPIM state committee secretary Jitendra Chaudhury asserted on Monday that the state’s law and order situation has deteriorated severely and that constitutional rights are being undermined under the BJP’s governance.

Chaudhury made these remarks following a rally for filing nominations in the Santchand Rural Development Block, located in the South District. During the event, participants were reportedly attacked with stones by unknown assailants.

Chaudhury accused BJP-backed miscreants of orchestrating the attack. He claimed that the assailants began throwing stones at CPIM workers as they exited the block offices after submitting their nominations, with the police standing by idly.

“Fortunately, no one was injured. Their intention was to provoke us, but we chose not to retaliate. Our priority was to complete the nomination process. We are uncertain if our workers and candidates can safely return home. This is indicative of the dire state of democracy. The law and order situation has completely broken down, and constitutional rights are in disarray. We are witnessing a state of anarchy,” stated Chaudhury, who also serves as the Leader of the Opposition.

He further alleged that BJP supporters are actively obstructing workers and candidates from other political parties from filing their nominations, all while the police remain passive.

“The police are complicit by their inaction, effectively serving as bystanders. The ruling party is systematically dismantling democracy. If we do not unite against this BJP misrule, we will fail to restore law and order and safeguard our democracy,” he declared to reporters.
