Agartala, July 22, 2023: Water supply works under the Jal Jeevan Mission project in Aralia area under Charilam assembly constituency, have come to a halt due to an alleged dispute over kickbacks. Accusations have been raised against Panchayat member Dulal Mia and Booth Chairman Abu Mia, leading to significant discontent in the region. The development projects in the area have faced extensive criticism, challenging the government’s promise of providing water to every household.
The project faced a setback when Prime Minister’s Jal Jeevan Mission initiative aimed at providing piped water to households encountered a roadblock. Local leaders, Ashis Debnath and construction worker Sohel Rana, allegedly demanded a substantial sum to facilitate the installation of pipelines in Pump House. The dispute has stalled the project, and Mandal leaders have intervened to mediate the matter.
Former Deputy Chief Minister, Jishnu Debbarma, had a long-standing belief that the region was plagued by corruption and malpractices since 2018. Due to these alleged irregularities and manipulation, he was defeated in the 2023 Legislative Assembly elections.
As the situation escalates, it is becoming evident that certain leaders and Panchayat members are involved in unethical practices, raising questions about their credibility and intentions. If the top leadership fails to address these issues promptly, the corrupt elements within the ruling party might tarnish the image of the governing body, adversely affecting their chances in future elections.
