Agartala, 19th January 2025:  A recent case of corruption in the Jolaibari block has shaken the local community, as authorities uncover significant financial misappropriation involving the Engineer. On January 10, Community Development Officer Manas Bhattacharya filed a written complaint with Baikhora police station, accusing engineer Bimal Das of embezzling government funds meant for local development projects.

According to the complaint, Bimal Das failed to complete several government-subsidized projects, including the construction of cow sheds in the Swadeshnagar Gram Panchayat and Srikantabari ADC Village areas. The total sum of money embezzled across these seven incomplete works is a staggering ₹7,91,699. Despite receiving the complaint, the police have yet to arrest the accused, although an investigation is ongoing.

Baikhora police station OC Bishnu Chandra Das confirmed that a case has been registered and that they are actively working to apprehend the engineer. Local citizens have expressed frustration at the lack of progress in development and believe that such corruption is depriving the area of essential services.

Meanwhile, similar allegations of financial misconduct have surfaced in Bagafa block, with accusations against an engineer involved in long-standing corrupt practices. Community members have urged for a thorough investigation into these issues, pointing out that state-sponsored projects are being misused by corrupt officials.

Citizens of Bagafa block have expressed their demand for a probe similar to the one in Jolaibari, urging the Block Development Officer (BDO) of Bagafa to take swift action against these financial irregularities and ensure proper implementation of development schemes. The ongoing investigations are expected to shed light on the depth of corruption that may have plagued local governance for years, as people continue to call for accountability and transparency.
