Court sends two involved in murder case to four days Police remand

Agartala, 3rd May 2024:  In connection with the murder of Durga Prasanna Deb, also known as Viki, the secretary of Bharat Ratna Sangha club in Agartala, the Chief Judicial Magistrate of West District has remanded two individuals, including a woman, to police custody until May 7.

According to Advocate Indrajit Biswas, the incident occurred on April 30 near Hati Para in Sal Bagan, where Durga Prasanna Deb was fatally shot in the evening.

“Pradyot Dhar Chowdhury was arrested by Tripura Police on May 1. After three days in police custody, he was presented before Chief Judicial Magistrate Saikat Das today. Subsequently, the police arrested Sushmita Sarkar (22), a resident of Bhubanban, on May 2, after interrogation revealed her alleged involvement as a key orchestrator of the shooting incident,” explained the advocate.

He further disclosed that the police sought an additional five days of custody for Pradyot Dhar Chowdhury to investigate the involvement of other individuals and for further questioning. Additionally, they requested 10 days of custody for Sushmita.

“After reviewing the evidence, the court has ordered them to be held in police custody until May 7,” he concluded.
