Agartala, 30th November 2025: Concerns over Tripura’s law and order intensified on Monday after Leader of the Opposition and CPIM state committee secretary Jitendra Chaudhury alleged a “total collapse of the Rule of Law” in the state, following an attack on two party leaders in Dharmanagar.
Chaudhury visited GB Trauma Centre in Agartala to meet former MLA Amitabha Datta, who, along with party leader Ratan Roy, was injured in what the CPIM claims was an attack by “BJP-backed miscreants.” While Roy has been discharged after treatment, Datta remains under medical care.
The Opposition leader alleged that the assault occurred “in the presence of police,” accusing the administration of failing to intervene or ensure immediate medical assistance.
“Such incidents clearly indicate that there is no democracy in the state. Attacks on opposition party workers by ruling party-backed miscreants have become a daily affair. The Law and Order situation and the Rule of Law in Tripura have “totally collapsed”, he said.
According to Chaudhury, the police were present during the incident, yet the attackers carried out the assault leading to serious injuries.
“They were lying in a pool of blood, but the administration took no steps to rescue them or send them to the hospital. This is the real condition of Law and Order in Tripura,” he said.
He added that the CPIM would continue to fight against such incidents and work to “protect democracy” in the state.
There was no immediate reaction from the ruling BJP or the police regarding the allegations.
