Agartala, 29th August 2024: In a bid to revive its dwindling fortunes, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPIM) has embarked on a deep introspection journey, analyzing its persistent electoral setbacks. Since 2018, the party has seen a significant decline in voter support across multiple state elections, leading to a series of disappointing results. Despite repeated setbacks, the party’s leadership has struggled to identify the underlying causes of its declining influence.
On Thursday, a crucial meeting of the CPIM Tripura State Committee was held at Dasarath Deb Smriti Bhavan, Melarmath here. The meeting was attended by several senior leaders, including Biman Bose, former secretary of the CPIM West Bengal State Committee and member of the CPIM Politburo; Manik Sarkar, member of the CPIM Politburo and former Chief Minister of Tripura; and Jitendra Chaudhury, CPIM’s state secretary. State committee members also participated in the discussions.
The meeting focused on reviewing the party’s poor performance in the recent Lok Sabha and Panchayat elections. Leaders engaged in a detailed discussion on strategies to bolster the party’s strength in the coming days. However, the leadership expressed concerns that if the current trend continues, the party might face even more severe challenges in the future.
As the CPIM grapples with its declining support base, the leadership’s ability to address the root causes of their electoral failures will be crucial in determining the party’s future trajectory in the state.
