Agartala, 15th November 2025: The state unit of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued a strong statement condemning what it describes as widespread attacks and intimidation by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) supporters in various parts of the state following the results of the Bihar election.
According to the statement, the CPI(M) alleges that BJP workers, emboldened by the victory of their party’s candidate from the 14th Dhanpur Assembly constituency, launched assaults and vandalized property belonging to opposition activists.
The CPI(M) claimed that incidents of violence occurred across several areas, particularly in Dhanpur, Kalamchoura, and Maheshkhola. The party accuses BJP supporters of attacking CPI(M) offices, ransacking homes of opposition workers, and causing extensive property damage.
It alleged that BJP-backed groups forced their way into local committee offices, vandalizing and looting belongings, including communication equipment and party materials.
According to the statement, police personnel were present during some of the attacks but failed to intervene. Instead, CPI(M) alleges that police officers pressured party supporters, threatened them, and in certain cases forced them to leave their homes. The party further claims that law enforcement authorities detained four CPI(M) supporters from the 12th November IPC area under politically motivated charges and demanded their immediate release.
The CPI(M) criticizes the ruling party and administrative machinery for failing to ensure a democratic and peaceful environment during and after the by-election. It asserts that political violence cannot be part of routine governance and that dissenting voices must be allowed to function freely. The party leadership warns that such attacks undermine democratic principles and create an atmosphere of fear for opposition supporters.
Calling for the restoration of peace, the CPI(M) urges the administration to take strict measures against those responsible for the violence. The statement insists that the government must ensure the safety and security of all political workers and prevent further escalation of tension in the affected areas.
The CPI(M) also emphasizes that political expression and participation are constitutional rights and cannot be suppressed through intimidation or force. The party vows to continue its democratic movement and hold the ruling establishment accountable for what it describes as orchestrated attacks against opposition activists.
