Agartala, 8th September 2025 :   The Joynagar Melarmath and Rajnagar local committees of the CPIM submitted a memorandum to the DWS department’s division office at Banamalipur Bhuturia demanding urgent public health intervention in response to a rising outbreak of jaundice and typhoid in the area.

Speaking on the matter, CPIM leader Sandipan Deb stated that numerous residents of Joynagar have been affected by the diseases and are currently undergoing treatment at home. He attributed the outbreak to unplanned drainage and road excavation works carried out under the Smart City initiative, which have allegedly led to the mixing of contaminated water and a severe shortage of clean drinking water amid soaring temperatures.

The deputation called for immediate action from the Health department including: organizing health awareness campaigns in affected localities, conducting blood tests to identify infected individuals, setting up medical camps for treatment and monitoring, and ensuring proper surveillance and follow-up for diagnosed patients.

Local residents echoed concerns over the deteriorating sanitation and water supply, urging authorities to prioritize public health over infrastructural haste. The CPIM emphasized that without swift and coordinated efforts, the situation could escalate further.
