Agartala, 2nd January 2026: An axe believed to have been used in the murder of delivery boy Prabir Shil was recovered during a police-led reconstruction of the crime at Bamutia, conducted in the presence of the Deputy Collector and Magistrate of Mohanpur.
During the reconstruction, the accused demonstrated how the incident unfolded and identified the location where the crime took place. Police investigations revealed that the alleged mastermind, Shekhar Tanti, had brought the axe from a nearby house on December 24. The weapon was recovered on the spot during the reconstruction exercise.
Senior officials present included Deputy Collector and Magistrate Amitabh Acharya, SDPO Mohanpur Sabyasachi Debnath, Lefunga Police Station OC Sahadeb Das, Bamutia Outpost OC Anthony Jamatia, and Investigating Officer Nipendra Jamatia. The accused Shekhar Tanti, Tanmoy Orang and Bikash Tanti were also present.
Local sources disclosed that Shekhar Tanti, identified as the mastermind in this case, had previously been implicated in another murder registered at the Airport Police Station.
Police officials stated that, for the sake of the ongoing investigation, details of other individuals possibly involved in the crime are being withheld.
