Agartala, 5th August 2024:   A 28-year-old man named Alak Chakraborty is currently undergoing treatment at Khowai District Hospital after being diagnosed with dengue fever. The incident has caused widespread panic in the sub-division, as the district administration and Health department scramble to address the outbreak.

Alak Chakraborty, a resident of West Ganki in Khowai has been suffering from fever for the past month. Employed as a security guard abroad, he returned to Khowai and sought medical attention at the district hospital. After a blood test confirmed dengue fever, Chakraborty has been receiving treatment at the hospital for the past three days.

In a concerning development, sources allege that hospital staff concealed Chakraborty’s dengue diagnosis. According to reports, nurses withheld the blood test results, raising suspicions about the hospital’s transparency. Chakraborty himself claimed that he was not provided with his test report, fueling public doubt about the hospital’s handling of the situation.

The concealment of the dengue outbreak has led to public outrage. Many residents believe that the district administration and health department are attempting to downplay the severity of the situation to avoid scrutiny. Critics argue that the lack of proactive measures against diseases like malaria, enteric fever, and dengue fever highlights the authorities’ negligence.

In response to the crisis, local leaders and philanthropists have stepped in to support the affected patient. Khowai Mandal President Subrata Majumdar and Panchayat Samiti Vice-Chairman Tapas Kanti Das visited Chakraborty on Monday morning. Additionally, prominent philanthropist Abhijit Dutta Bhowmik provided financial assistance of Rs 2000 for Chakraborty’s medical expenses and pledged further support for dengue patients.

Reports indicate that dengue fever is spreading to various remote areas of Khowai sub-division, exacerbating the public health crisis. The district administration and health department are under increasing pressure to implement effective measures to control the outbreak and ensure transparency in their operations.
